Read MoreBy Zack Quaintance — There’s lots to love in the Top Comics to Buy for October 21, 2020 for students of comics craft, be it with individual issues like the Tonci Zonjic-illustrated Skulldigger and Skeleton Boy #5, or the hardcover graphic novella series November by Matt Fraction and Elsa Charretier, which is now on its third book. You can find all that and more on this week’s list…enjoy!
Read MoreBy Zack Quaintance — Eclectic is my favorite type of Best comiXology Sales lists, and this week’s is perhaps the single most eclectic bunch of books we’ve ever assembled for this feature. We have five different publishers, ranging from indie to corporate Big 2 to European reprints. The end result is a great list that might have some choices you’ve been meaning to read right there beside hidden gems you were not previously aware of before reading this.
Read MoreBy Zack Quaintance — I try to limit the number of new #1 comics we put on these weekly lists, but this week’s Top Comics to Buy for September 16 is a rare group that has two of them on there. The reason being is twofold. I typically find that #1 comics sell well enough on their own. They get peak publisher promotion. So much so that many of you out there reading this have probably already made up your mind whether you’re going to buy this week’s new #1s. One issue is also difficult for me to recommend, because how do I know whether it’s worth following long term?
Read MoreBy Zack Quaintance — This week it was comics writer Brian Michael Bendis’ birthday. This weekend is also DC Comics Fandome, the online promotional event the publisher is rolling out to replace the con appearances it can’t make this year due to COVID-19. Anyway, as a result, there’s a big DC sale going on, and we’ve picked two of our favorite Bendis books from his DC era to include on the list of Best comiXology Sales weekend of August 21 below.
Read MoreBy Zack Quaintance — I feel like I keep saying this, but this Top Comics to Buy for July 15 feels like one of the first of these columns that has a full compliment of industry-wide monthly books to choose from. The distribution stoppage feels increasingly behind us after both Marvel and DC took the week before July 4 off, and now we have a great selection of comics from the Big 2, from indie publishers, and also from book publishers, with Tom Scioli’s excellent Jack Kirby book standing out as the cream of that crop.
Read MoreBy Zack Quaintance — It’s a holiday weekend, and that means big sales on digital comics. This week, we have as always combed through the current comiXology sales to render to you (our dear readers!) this list of five great choices within them. This weekend’s list includes some of the best DC Comics ever made (which also tie into an upcoming reading project for this site), an all-time great modern Marvel Comics run, all of Umbrella Academy, and more.
Read MoreBy Zack Quaintance — The thing about perusing these comiXology sales, is that there’s not really a unified aesthetic week-to-week. Some weeks, we have all indie books and literary-minded graphic novels; other weeks its all capes and tights superheroes. The best comiXology sales for the weekend of June 19 is very much the latter, going hard with superhero stories.
Read MoreBy Zack Quaintance — This week’s comiXology sales are here…and it’s Hickman week. At least, that’s a big part of it. All of visionary superhero/sci-fi writer Jonathan Hickman’s comics through Marvel are on sale now, including Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and some of his early X-Men stuff. But that’s not all there is available at enabling prices this week.
Read MoreBy Zack Quaintance — To be totally blunt, it’s a chaotic time to be tracking and recommending new release comics. Some of the product coming out to stores (those that are open and functioning, that is) are books that were stalled in Diamond’s warehouse. Others are new releases, and still more have been regulated to digital-only releases. That said, we did our best to come up with a set of Top Comics to Buy for May 27, 2020, for those of who are able to shop for comics right now in these times.
Read MoreBy Zack Quaintance — A lot of publishers like to run giant digital comics sales for three day weekends, and this year’s mostly-quarantined Memorial Day is no exception. The biggest sale of the weekend is DC Comics discounting nearly 1,000 different collections, but that’s not all there is. There are plenty of other great books available too, and you can find our picks for the best available below.
