Those books make up three of this week’s five choices. In addition, we also have a classic run of Black Panther as well as one of the many Ed Brubaker/Sean Phillips hits.

Best comiXology Sales: The Neil Gaiman Edition
Neil Gaiman’s Likely Stories
Writer: Neil Gaiman
Artist: Mark Buckingham
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
These dark and imaginative tales feature an odd and subtly linked world of bizarre venereal diseases, a creepy old woman who feasts on raw meat, a man obsessed with a skin model from a magazine, and a story within a story about ghosts.
You wont want to miss this collection featuring comic adaptations of the short stories: Looking for the Girl, Foreign Parts, Closing Time, and Feeders and Eaters from the Hugo, Eisner, Newbery, Harvey, Bram Stoker, Locus, World Fantasy, and Nebula award-winning author Neil Gaiman!
Why It’s Cool: This collection is essentially a comics adaptation of Gaiman’s short stories, brought to life by celebrated artist Mark Buckingham. There’s a lot of variety to be found in this week’s choices (even within the Gaiman works themselves), and yet, this is probably the most varied of all the books, a really interesting and engaging cross-section of ideas, themes, and interests — all done with absolutely beautiful comics art.
Price: $4.99

Neil Gaiman’s How To Talk To Girls At Parties
Writer: Neil Gaiman
Artists: Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Two teenage boys are in for a tremendous shock when they crash a party where the girls are far more than they appear!
From Neil Gaiman—one of the most celebrated authors of our time—and award-winning artists Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá, this sumptuous graphic novel is not to be missed!
Moon and Bá adapt the Gaiman story they were born to draw!
Why It’s Cool: Like all of the Gaiman picks on this list, this one sees the writer teaming with one of the best artists in comics, which in this case is actually two of the best artists in comics with brothers Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá. This is one of the most fun Gaiman works in my opinion, a relatively cheeky concept that’s filled with surprises. If you haven’t read this one yet, this week’s sales give you a great chance to change that.

Norse Mythology, Vol. 1
Writer: Neil Gaiman and P. Craig Russell
Artists: Mike Mignola, Jerry Ordway, David Rubin, Jill Thompson, and more
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Gaiman and Russell team with a legendary collection of artists to take readers through a series of Norse myths, including the creation of the Nine Worlds, the loss of Odin's eye and source of his knowledge, the crafting of Thor's hammer and the gods' most valuable treasures, the origin of poetry, and Loki's part in the end of all things--Ragnarök.
Collects Norse Mythology #1-#6, featuring art by P. Craig Russell, Mike Mignola, Jerry Ordway, David Rubín, Piotr Kowalski, and Jill Thompson.
Why It’s Cool: The newest entry on today’s Gaiman list, this book sees Gaiman and co-writer Pr. Craig Russell teaming with some of the most revered modern artists in all of comics, from Mignola to Thompson to David Rubin. What results are great new-feeling comics takes on Norse stories that range from familiar to obscure.

Black Panther By Christopher Priest, The Complete Collection Vol. 1 - Vol. 3
Writer: Christopher Priest
Artists: Mark Texiera, Kyle Hotz, and more
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Black Panther reinvented as a sharp and witty political satire? Believe it! T’Challa is the man with the plan as Christopher Priest puts the emphasis on the Wakandan king’s reputation as the ultimate statesman, as seen through the eyes of the U.S. government’s Everett K. Ross. As the Panther investigates a murder in New York, Ross plays Devil’s Advocate in an encounter with Mephisto, and a new regime seizes control in Wakanda. When the truth behind the coup becomes clear, T’Challa finds himself an enemy of the state — and a major revelation threatens to destroy his relationship with the Avengers! Plus: Meet Queen Divine Justice — is she ready to join T’Challa’s deadly crew of female bodyguards, the Dora Milaje? Are they ready for her?
Why It’s Cool: These comics — part of the absolutely excellent Marvel Knights imprint of the early 2000s — are responsible for a lot of the qualities we’ve come to associate with Black Panther today, perhaps more so than any other run on the character. This makes them absolute must-reads.
Price: $8.49 each, or $25.47 for all three volumes

Kill or Be Killed, Vol. 1
Writer: Ed Brubaker
Artist: Sean Phillips
Publisher: Image Comics
The darkly twisted story of a young man forced to kill bad people, and how he struggles to keep his secret as it slowly begins to ruin his life and the lives of his friends and loved ones. Both a thriller and a deconstruction of vigilantism, KILL OR BE KILLED is unlike anything this award-winning team has done before.
Why It’s Cool: Simply put, all comics by the team of Brubaker and Phillips are “cool” and worth reading, but I wanted to include this book this week because it ties in to Dan Clark’s excellent inaugural piece in his new Comics + Cinema series. That piece compared the vigilante storytelling in the 2013 film Blue Ruin with the vigilante story in this book. So read (or re-read these comics), watch that film, read Dan’s piece, and bliss out on the excellent pop culture experience across the board.
