By Zack Quaintance — Of this week’s Top Comics to Buy for February 16, 2022, a whopping four of the five on the highlighted list are big finales — and they’re all from different publishers. I don’t know what any of this means, but it is a thing I noticed. As usual, though, I like to think this picks are all Very Good. And I hope you enjoy them.

Top Comics to Buy for February 16, 2022
PICK OF THE WEEK
Hellboy: Bones of Giants #4
Writers: Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden
Artist: Matt Smith
Colorist: Chris O’Halloran
Letterer: Clem Robins
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Hellboy and the others make their way to the ghost city of Utgard in search of Thrym. But there's more than one giant standing between the B.P.R.D. and saving the world. Dwarves, Valkyries, and the Norse god of Thunder himself come together for the ultimate confrontation to close out this stunner of a series!
Why It’s Cool: This adaptation of a Hellboy novel has just been excellent from the start, combining as it does Hellboy and some of his supporting cast with a very Hellboy case relating to Norse mythology. It’s all in here — deep knowledge of the real world inspirations, acerbic one-liners, and giant punches. This being the finale to a really strong series lands it our (coveted?) pick of the week designation.

Primordial #6
Writer: Jeff Lemire
Artist: Andrea Sorrentino
Colorist: Dave Stewart
Letterer: Steve Wands
Publisher: Image Comics
The mind-bending conclusion to the exhilarating new series by JEFF LEMIRE and ANDREA SORRENTINO! Our animal astronauts make a final attempt to return to Earth as their allies on the ground fight desperately to guide them home.
Why It’s Cool: Writer Jeff Lemire and artist Andrea Sorrentino are one of the smoothest and most interesting teams working in monthly comics. And here they deliver a really intriguing finale for Primordial, a book that has been built around animals and the space race — and absolutely elevated by Sorrentino’s singular page designs as well as the way they synch up with Lemire’s thematic interests. Now, the duo are off to launch an entire line of horror comics, but that’s for another day. Enjoy this one, it’s been a great and satisfying ride.

Regarding the Matter of Oswald’s Body #4
Writer: Christopher Cantwell
Artist: Luca Casalanguida
Colorist: Giada Marchisio
Letterer: AndWorld Design
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
A shadowy figure awaits the forensic results of Lee Harvey Oswald's supposed body, while our four -- now five -- are waylaid in Texas on their way to Louisiana, with the risk of capture adding to their already tense situation. The four are increasingly bothered by their fifth wheel, and contemplate what to do about him, but when one of them answers that question, they'll all have no choice but to face their fates one way or another.
Why It’s Cool: Through the first three issues, Regarding the Matter of Oswald’s body has felt like a heist story built around a real world historical event that has sparked all manner of conspiracy theories. I had a sense throughout that there was something big coming at the end of this one, and while I won’t spoil the nature of it even a little bit, I will note — I was very right. You’ll want to catch this finale.

The Silver Coin #9
Writer: Vita Ayala
Artist/Letterer: Michael Walsh
Colorist: Toni Marie Griffin and Michael Walsh
Publisher: Image Comics
The South Bronx is on fire and a crooked cop can clear his debts if he helps it burn. But with each dirty deed, THE SILVER COIN gets hotter to handle. A new episode of the hit horror anthology from VITA AYALA, JOSHUA WILLIAMSON, RAM V, MATTHEW ROSENBERG, and MICHAEL WALSH is out this month.
Why It’s Cool: I absolutely love this horror anthology series. Every chapter is different in terms of everything from its writer to the time period in which its set to its thematic interests. What unites these stories is simply the titular silver coin (which is an evil coin) and the artwork of Michael Walsh. This month’s new issues tackles a corrupt cop and intentional arson in the Bronx, and it’s a fantastic read.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #8
Writer: Tom King
Artist: Bilquis Evely
Colorist: Matheus Lopes
Letterer: Clayton Cowles
Publisher: DC Comics
Krem’s fate revealed! As Supergirl continues her battle against the Brigands, Ruthye squares off against this most vile villain in hopes of avenging her father and completing their mission. Will justice be served on both accounts? Or will our heroes fail? You won’t want to miss thrilling conclusion of the acclaimed miniseries that has changed Kara Zor-El for good!
Why It’s Cool: Yet another finale on this week’s list, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #8 lands this one in a fantastic place. This story — an homage to True Grit played out with superheroes in space — brings us right up to the moment promised from the start, and delivers a satisfying conclusion, to be sure. I won’t say too much more than that to avoid spoilers. Plus, I’m writing a full review to go up on the site tomorrow…
