The Fandom Files Reading List - Introduction
I’ve never quite been able to access the depths of comics fandom. I love comics, don’t get me wrong. I mean, I really love comics, and this website is my way of expressing that, daily. But I’ve never had a favorite character, or even a set of characters I will read, follow, and obsesses about regardless of the story.
And so when I was brainstorming concepts for a new reading list (to follow the Quarantine Reading List and the Extra Eisners Reading List), I decided to change that. I wanted to put together a new set of comics reading recommendations from experts…and also gain a better understanding of how and why readers come to identify so thoroughly with a character. With all that in mind, the concept of this list is simple — every day, a new writer tells us how they got into a character, why they love that character, and what comics they recommend you read about that character.
It’s exciting stuff, and a bit different from the other lists we’ve done on the site in the past, in large part because it inherently focuses on superheroes. That said, the comics will be good, and you can check back to this space each day around 4 p.m. Eastern (give or take an hour), for a new entry to be added!
Today, Rebecca Kaplan has written a fantastic piece about her favorite character, Scarlet Witch, complete with an excellent set of reading recommendations for getting to know Wanda Maximoff…
