Best comiXology Sales: Matt Kindt
BANG!
Writer: Matt Kindt
Artist: Wilfredo Torres
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
A best-of-the-best secret agent with memories he couldn't possibly possess, a mystery writer in her eighties who spends her retirement solving crimes, a man of action with mysterious drugs that keep him ahead of a constant string of targeted disasters, a seemingly omnipotent terrorist organization that might be behind it all . . . And they're all connected to one man: a science-fiction author with more information than seems possible, whose books may hold the key to either saving reality or destroying it. Collects BANG! #1–#5, along with all covers, a sketchbook section, and pinups by Matt Kindt.
Why It’s Cool: I absolutely loved BANG! a metafictional-leaning comic that drew heavily on action movie tropes, giving us analog characters ranging from James Bond to Die Hard, and tying them all together in one madcap story. I’m still hopeful we will eventually get more of these comics, but even if we don’t, this one volume is real good.
Price: $5.99

Black Hammer ‘45
Writers: Ray Fawkes and Jeff Lemire
Artist: Matt Kindt
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
From the world of the Eisner Award-winning Black Hammer series comes a gripping World War II action-adventure tale! During the Golden Age of superheroes, an elite Air Force crew called the Black Hammer Squadron bands together to combat the Nazis, a host of occult threats, and their ultimate aerial warrior the Ghost Hunter. This volume collects Black Hammer '45 #1–#4 from the all-star creative team of Ray Fawkes, Jeff Lemire, Matt Kindt, and Sharlene Kindt, as well as a sketchbook section.
Why It’s Cool: If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it dozens (dozens!) of times — all of the Black Hammer Universe side series are real good. The one you like the best is likely to just be a matter of your individual tastes. What we get in this story is alternate history historical fiction, with a squad of fighter pilots breaking racial boundaries and battling Nazis…plus a tie-in to some of the superhero stuff we’ve seen from other eras of this always-expanding universe of homage comics. This one sees Ray Fawkes and Jeff Lemire writing with Matt Kindt creating the artwork.

Ether, Library Edition
Writer: Matt Kindt
Artist: David Rubin
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
From New York Times bestselling Mind MGMT creator MATT KINDT and Black Hammer's DAVID RUBIN comes an interdimensional, genre-bending, sci-fi, fantasy, mystery adventure! Interdimensional explorer Boone Dias, a brilliant scientist from Earth, enters the magical world of Ether and stumbles onto a great responsibility that takes him through the center of volcanoes, deserts full of living mummies and sphinxes, and a bizarre fairy forest—all leading toward a final climactic battle for the fate of both worlds. Collecting every issue of Ether in deluxe edition, along with every cover and all published bonus content. Pinups by Gabriel Walta, Kevin Nowlan, Paul Azaceta, and more!
Why It’s Cool: Ether is an absolutely stunning, three-volume series, in which Kindt collaborates with visionary illustrator, David Rubin. There’s a lot going on in this book, with a central character who basically migrates from our familiar grounded world into a world made of stories — at great personal cost to himself and his family. See what I mean? A LOT happening here. What’s especially excellent about this week’s deal is that you can get all three volumes — a complete story! — for one solid price.

Michael Chabon’s The Escapist
Writer: Michael Chabon
Artists: Various
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Golden-Age superhero, the Escapist--master of elusion, champion of liberation--was conceived in the fictional world of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay. This comic book anthology contains a variety of the Escapist's exploits, and details on the history of the character.
Master of elusion and foe of tyranny, from his secret headquarters beneath the majestic Empire Theater, the Escapist and his associates have been defeating the crooked and coming to the aid of those in need for generations. From obstructing the endeavors of post-war Nazis, to protecting the innocent from an attack on the World's Fair, to infiltrating behind enemy lines to free prisoners of war in Vietnam, and even to stymieing a hypnotizing saxophone player, the Escapist does not suffer oppression of any kind. A multitude of the Escapist's pulse-pounding adventures are collected here along with details of the publishing history of Joe Kavalier and Sam Clay's creation. This volume also contains a story torn straight from the pages of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay: written by Michael Chabon, the tale of the mysterious Mr. Machine Gun. Also featured, from another Kavalier & Clay classic publication, Weird Date, are two stories of romance, crime, and mystery.
Why It’s Cool: I absolutely love Michael Chabon’s Pulitzer-winning novel The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, and if you do too, you’ll absolutely want to read this book.

From New York Times-bestselling and Harvey Award-winning graphic novelist Matt Kindt comes a globe-spanning tale of espionage, top-secret government programs, conspiracy, and weaponized amnesia. However, it remains to be seen if Meru and her allies will be able to stop the Eraser's new Mind Management before time runs out!
Why It’s Cool: This is one of my absolutely favorite Matt Kindt comics, a complex and rewarding story that Kindt both wrote and illustrated. Getting all three of the omnibusses (omnibi?) for this series for less than $25 is an absurdly good deal.
