By Anna Bailey — If you had just one wish that would absolutely come true, without a doubt — what would you wish for? A dinosaur to ride? The ability to teleport? For the love of your life to love you back? I think I’d wish for an endless supply of Peppermint Mocha Coffeemate creamer.

Anyway, that brings us to….

Writer Charles Soule and artist Ryan Browne’s new comic, Eight Billion Genies #1, is about exactly that. The creative team that brought us Curse Words is back together with a new book that asks, what happens when everyone everywhere on the planet is just given a genie? Just a little tiny, floating friend that is allowed to give them one wish and one wish only.

Then, poof, those genies are gone.

This story in Eight Billion Genies #1 is very exciting on so many levels because it seems to be a quick, witty, and fun character study of what would happen if everyone just suddenly got to pick one outlandish thing they’ve always wanted and just have it instantly.

The outside world is a mess with dinosaurs and guns, like Purge Night but during the day and a little less violent, but inside The Lampwick Bar and Grille, everyone is safe – the owner, Will Williams, protected everyone inside that bar with his one wish.

This new eight-issue series from Image Comics will follow what happens to the world and those people who are inside The Lampwick Bar as more and more wishes start to come true, and you won’t want to miss it. The first issue is due out May 11.

Overall: Eight Billion Genies #1 is a character study of what would happen if 8 billion people got the one thing they’ve always wanted and it doesn’t disappoint in humor or sincerity. 9.5/10
