Top Comics to Buy for June 3, 2020
*PICK OF THE WEEK*
November Book 2 HC
Writer: Matt Fraction
Artist: Elsa Charretier
Colorist: Matt Hollingsworth
Letterer: Kurt Ankeny
Publisher: Image Comics
Price: $16.99
One phone call for help and all hell breaks loose for three strangers connected by bad luck, a twist of fate, and a gun in a puddle of rain. In the middle of a dense criminal underworld, these strangers' lives collide on one fateful and bloody night in this epic novelistic thriller by MATT FRACTION and ELSA CHARRETIER, with colors by MATT HOLLINGSWORTH and stunning hand-crafted lettering by cartoonist KURT ANKENY. One night. One city. Three women. NOVEMBER.
Why It’s Cool: Few new comics blew us away last year quite like November Book One, which was simultaneously a masterclass in craft as well as an intriguing and entertaining story. And now it’s coming back with part two. This series is being released as a series of three gorgeous hardcovers, and our committee (of one!) can’t wait to procure a copy for our shelves. For our Comics Bookcase, as it were.

Action Comics #1022
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Artist: John Romita, Jr.
Inker: Danny Miki
Colorist: Brad Anderson
Letterer: Dave Sharpe
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Price: $3.99
First, Metropolis was hit with the biggest ground battle in the history of the city and barely survived. On top of that, Leviathan threw down his gauntlet for the entire world to see, and Superman revealed the truth of his identity as Clark Kent. Now the city is in a state of shock-and Clark and Conner Kent need to figure out what's next for them and the city they protect! Guest-starring Wonder Comics' Young Justice in a unique crossover!
Why It’s Cool: Brian Michael Bendis’ ongoing Superman saga — brought to life by a wide range of great artists is back — and we’re happy to report that the latest issue of Action Comics sees the book returning to form, concentrating more on the nitty-gritty of Metropolis and the Daily Planet than on larger storylines such as Leviathan. Overall, it’s just nice to have Bendis’ stellar Superman run back.

Copra #6
Writer/Artist/Letterer: Michel Fiffe
Publisher: Image Comics
Price: $3.99
"Heads of Ochizon, Annihilate" "The Ochizon Saga" is upon us! A showdown that has been forever hanging over our crew is finally here. Included in this double-length issue, the world of COPRA expands with the bonus, out-of-print rarity "Negativeland," presented here in full!
Why It’s Cool: There are few things that I love in comics more than Michel Fiffe’s long-time auteur epic Copra, and now we’re getting the start of a new story arc for the book here. Every issue of Copra is so well done that its release feels like an event, and this issue is no exception. It’s nice to have a truly must-buy comic during this ongoing crisis. And hey, why you’re at it why not go back and read all of the previous volumes of Copra? There are very few better reading experiences in all of comics today.

Finger Guns #2
Writer: Justin Richards
Artist: Val Halvorson
Colorist: Rebecca Nalty
Letterer: Taylor Esposito
Publisher: Vault Comics
Price: $3.99
The darker side of home life has Sadie pushing Wes to help discover more about their powers. The true discovery ends up being a friendship built-in no small part-around Bryan Adams sing-a-longs and a dog named Chester. If only the good days could stop the bad.
Why It’s Cool: Speaking of monthly comics releases that feel like an event when they hit the shelves, that’s where we’re also at with any and all new books from Vault Comics. One of our favorite new Vault books in recent months is Finger Guns...and now the sophomore issue is here. Finger Guns is one of those concepts that seems so simple but you just know it took all kinds of creative elbow grease to iron into that point. Anyway, if you liked the debut, pick this up and bliss out!

Shazam! #12
Writer: Jeff Loveness
Artist: Brandon Peterson
Colorist: Mike Atiyeh
Letterer: Rob Leigh
Publisher: DC Comics
Price: $3.99
Batman guest stars in a special team-up interlude issue! In pursuit of new villains to thwart, Shazam heads-where else?-to Gotham City, landing him face-to-creepy face with the Scarecrow! Can Batman help Billy overcome his greatest fears?
Why It’s Cool: Shazam! has been slow and sporadic coming out, just now reaching its 12-issue mark after first launching back in December of 2018. Which maybe explains the guest creative team of Jeff Loveness and Brandon Peterson. Whatever the reason they’re here, we’re not complaining! This issue is an utter delight, laced with child-like glee. Make sure to pick it up if you’re in a position to do so this week.
