Top Comics to Buy for November 17, 2021
Amazing Spider-Man #78.BEY
Writer: Jed MacKay
Artist: Eleonara Carlini
Colorist: Federico Blee
Letterer: Joe Caramagna
Publisher: Marvel Comics
The Daughters of the Dragon are Spider-Man's trainers, and they are kicking his WEBBY BUTT!
But is even their skill level enough for the mission that Beyond sends them on?
Who is the new villain OBSIDIAN STAR and how will Misty and Colleen possibly take him down?
Don't miss this pivotal issue!
Why It’s Cool: If you want to pick-up a single superhero comic you can get lost in and have a great time, you want a comic written by Jed MacKay. MacKay’s writing is just a good-time, adept at corporate superhero comics pacing yet always liable to surprise. And this Amazing Spider-Man Beyond tie-in special is no exception. Pick this one up whether you’re following that event or not, you’ll almost certainly enjoy it.
Price: $4.99

Batman #117
Writer: James Tynion IV
Artist: Jorge Jimenez
Colorist: Tomeu Morey
Letterer: Clayton Cowles
Publisher: DC Comics
As the full scope of the Scarecrow's plans is revealed, a bloodied Dark Knight fights for his life, and all the lives in Gotham City, against an unrelenting, unstoppable opponent. The shocking conclusion to "Fear State" is here...Will Batman ever be the same?
Backup: After what happened in the Magistrate's Skybase-01, nowhere is safe, and the Batgirls hide out in a hotel room until Babs arrives offering a plan for their future. Seer, the "Anti-Oracle," is revealed here! And who they are will make you question everything you see moving forward in Gotham...
Why It’s Cool: Batman #117 is the high-action climax to what for my money has been one of the best Gotham City event stories in years (a good many years!). In a couple weeks, we’ll get the run-ending decompression issue with Fear State - Omega, which will mark writer James Tynion’s exit from Gotham, but this week, sit back and enjoy the punching and big set pieces — they are a ton of fun, made all the more consequential by the building the creators have done within this event.

Nice House on the Lake #6
Writer: James Tynion IV
Artist: Alvaro Martinez Bueno
Colorist: Jordie Bellaire
Letterer: Andworld Design
Publisher: DC Comics - Black Label
The House has an eleventh guest. Reg is here-and that was never part of the plan. Or was it? Everything you know gets turned upside down in this issue...ending on a cliffhanger that will have to hold you until the House reopens in March 2022!
Why It’s Cool: The best new series of the year in all of monthly comics reaches its halfway point here (before going on hiatus until March 2022), and guess what? It ends on one of the single best and most intriguing cliffhangers of the year. This book is so good, and its central metaphor (people who are comfortable during the apocalypse, ahem) just keeps getting deeper.

Radio Apocalypse #1
Writer: Ram V.
Artist: Anand RK
Colorist: Anisha
Letterer: Aditya Bidikar
Publisher: Vault Comics
Long after the rock out of space struck the world and turned it all to dust, in Bakerstown stands the last Radio Station on the planet. Radio Apocalypse broadcasting into the unknown, a beacon in the dark for those who wander the lost places. Now change is coming to Bakerstown. Among the refugees flocking into an already precarious settlement, an orphan boy Rion, caught in an indiscretion, will twine his fate with the Radio Station. And in doing so, begin this mixtape of love and heartbreak and interminable hope. This soundtrack to the end of the world.
Why It’s Cool: This week marks the launch of a new comic by one of the most interesting regular creative teams in all of monthly comics — Ram V. and Anand RK (here with Anisha and Aditya Bidikar). To date, their resume includes Grafity’s Wall and Blue In Green, two absolutely excellent works of comics art, and after reading this first issue, we absolutely expect Radio Apocalypse to join the list of their greatest hits.

Wasted Space #25
Writer: Michael Moreci
Artist: Hayden Sherman
Colorist: Jason Wordie
Letterer: Jim Campbell
Publisher: Vault Comics
Last ride, last dose, last adventure. This is THE END. And from the entire creative team, we say thank you to the retailers, readers, and everyone else who has supported WASTED SPACE over 25 issues. We are so truly grateful that you joined us on this ride. Long live Billy, Molly, and Dust!
Why It’s Cool: Little-known fact — Wasted Space #1 was the second comic we ever reviewed on this very website. At the time, we weren’t really doing reviews (crazy to think about now), but I found that debut issue to be so interesting, different, and enthralling, that I wanted to A. write about it, and B. make sure if found a larger audience (even one reader back then would have made me pretty happy). That’s all to say it’s weird to think about this series ending, so intrinsically linked is it with the history of this website, but you know what? As it comes to a conclusion, I’m thrilled to report that this series has remained among our favorites for the full length of its run. This is the best space opera in comics, and if you’ve been following it, you’re going to love how it ends.
