Why It’s Cool: If there was a plutonic ideal of a DC Comic, I think this might be it for me. It’s absolutely gorgeous, armed with artwork by Dan Mora and colors by Tamra Bonvillain. The book almost shines right off the page, it’s that good. And writer Mark Waid does a good Batman and Superman, at least in the context of the sort of fluid team-up world a book like this has to exist in. Add in the addition of the Doom Patrol? And you get a level of unpredictability for this series that stokes interest past just this very good first issue.

Why It’s Cool: Regarding the Matter of Oswald’s Body from its start has been a favorite comic around these parts, and this week it’s ending. That’s the sad news. The good news, however, is that the finale that it goes out on is just as fantastic and character-driven as the rest of this excellent book, which uses real events about Lee Harvey Oswald and all the weirdness that entails to great effect.

Why It’s Cool: Are you a comics creator doing a horror anthology series at Image Comics? Well then, I probably love your book. Granted, there are only two of those, with The Silver Coin joining Ice Cream Man in those ranks. This issue of Silver Coin feels extra special. The concept of this series has been the writers change but artist Michael Walsh remains, and this is one of the issues where he’s doing it all — and the results are great.

Why It’s Cool: Look, the titular Sword of Hpyerborea isn’t my favorite Hellboy character or thing, but it is definitely fast-rising, especially with the way that this specific issue ties back to my favorite use of the artifact from back in B.P.R.D. How did it do that? One word, Chicago.

Why It’s Cool: Maybe it’s because we don’t often get Wonder Woman crossovers (generally, there’s only one title, which makes it hard to cross things), but I’ve found this new Trial of the Amazons event to feel really different and unpredictable. This issue was more of what we saw in the launch of the event, with nice drama between the different factions of Amazons and a twist that reorients the story at its end.
