Image Comics June 2022 Solicitations - The Highlights
I was just reflecting on what a strong year it has been for Image Comics so far, with the Saga return serving as a headliner while other, well-done comics come behind it, including new entries to the Image catalog like Monkey Meat, Step By Bloody Step, and Newburn. In June, a couple of those series will have ended, but it remains a strong month nonetheless, with a long-awaited new Walking Dead graphic novel by Tillie Walden, one of the best graphic novelists working in the medium right now.

Image Comics June 2022 Solicitations — The Highlights
Clementine, Book One OGN TP - Due Out June 22
WRITER / ARTIST / COVER: TILLIE WALDEN
JUNE 22 / 256 PAGES / BW / T+ / $14.99
Powerhouse creator TILLIE WALDEN takes on the world of ROBERT KIRKMAN’s THE WALKING DEAD in the most anticipated YA graphic novel of 2022.
The trilogy marks the graphic novel debut of Clementine, star of the massively successful Telltale Games video game.
In Book One, Clementine discovers new allies, new rivals, and new love. But as the group tries to build a walker-free settlement in an abandoned ski resort, they soon discover that the biggest threat to their survival…is each other.
Why It’s Cool: I wrote about this when the preview pages dropped earlier this month, but to recap: The Walking Dead is expanding its story in comics in a significant way for the first outside of the now-ended main series. To do that, Skybound has enlisted cartoonist Tillie Walden — one the best rising talents in the medium right now — to do a trilogy of YA graphic novels about a character first introduced in a video game, Clementine. And friends, the first book is coming in June and it is the comics highlight of the month. Get excited.
Do A Powerbomb #1 (of 7) - Due Out June 15
WRITER / ARTIST / COVER A: DANIEL WARREN JOHNSON
COVER B: JAMES HARREN
JUNE 15 / 32 PAGES SELF-COVER / FC / T+ / $3.99
MINISERIES PREMIERE
The creator of MURDER FALCON and Wonder Woman: Dead Earth is launching a brand-new limited series!
Lona Steelrose wants to be a pro wrestler, but she’s living under the shadow of her mother, the best to ever do it. Everything changes when a wrestling-obsessed necromancer asks her to join the grandest pro wrestling tournament of all time, which is also the most dangerous! It’s The Wrestler meets Dragonball Z in a tale where the competitors get more than they ever bargained for!
Why It’s Cool: I also wrote about this when the news broke, but cartoonist Daniel Warren Johnson has a knack for picking increasingly disparate subject matter — post-apocalyptic futures, Wonder Woman, heavy metal bands — that somehow all fit perfectly well with his aesthetic. This book is no exception featuring as it does a “wrestling-obsessed necromancer.” Can’t wait to see DWJ drawing lucha masks and, as the name implies, powerbombs.
The Home Sick Pilots Finale…
Home Sick Pilots #15 - Due Out June 22
WRITER: DAN WATTERS
ARTIST / COVER A: CASPAR WIJNGAARD
COVER B: MICHAEL WALSH
SERIES FINALE
JUNE 22 / 32 PAGES SELF-COVER / FC / M / $3.99
Everything ends. In fire. In truth. In A LOT of house-punching…in the FINAL ISSUE of HOME SICK PILOTS.
Why It’s Cool: This series I think has started to fly a bit under the radar, maybe because it’s hard to figure out what kind of box to put it in. It’s a horror, coming-of-age story that also has to do with punk rock, found family, and I think house that come to life as giant kaiju and battle it out with the trendy bands inside them who may or may not be on good terms? There’s a lot going on in this very interesting and relentlessly stylish book, and it’s all coming to an end in June with Home Sick Pilots #15, the series finale.
Joe Hill’s Rain HC - Due Out August 24
WRITERS: JOE HILL & DAVID M. BOOHER
ARTIST / COVER: ZOE THOROGOOD
AUGUST 24 / 128 PAGES / FC / T+ / $21.99
On a seemingly normal August day in Boulder, Colorado, the skies are clear and Honeysuckle Speck couldn’t be happier. She’s finally moving in with her girlfriend Yolanda. But their world is literally torn apart when dark clouds roll in and release a downpour of nails—splinters of bright crystal that shred the skin of anyone not safely under cover.
RAIN makes vivid this escalating apocalyptic event, as the deluge of nails spreads across the country and around the world, threatening everything young lovers Honeysuckle and Yolanda hold dear.
So begins a gripping graphic presentation of New York Times-bestselling author JOE HILL’s acclaimed novella, adapted by DAVID M. BOOHER (Canto) and ZOE THOROGOOD (The Impending Blindness of Billie Scott). Also features a bonus art gallery and an all-new introduction by author JOE HILL!
Collects JOE HILL’S RAIN #1-5
Why It’s Cool: Joe Hill’s Rain has been outstanding through its first three issues, featuring a high horror concept — it’s raining deadly needles! — mashed up excellently with a character-driven story about losing a deep love and trying to power through it. Thankfully, the five issue series will be getting a nice hardcover edition this June.
Public Domain #1 - Due Out June 29
WRITER / ARTIST / COVER: CHIP ZDARSKY
JUNE 29 / 40 PAGES SELF-COVER / FC / M / $3.99
SERIES PREMIERE
Syd Dallas is responsible for pop culture’s greatest hero: THE DOMAIN! But his sons Miles and David have a complicated relationship with both the creation and their creator. Can they convince their dad to fight for their family’s legacy?
This fun and heartfelt series written and illustrated by Eisner winner CHIP ZDARSKY (SEX CRIMINALS, Daredevil) explores a WILD ALTERNATE WORLD where comic book creators aren’t properly acknowledged or compensated for their creations!! Crazy, I know!!
Hi, it’s me, CHIP! I’m writing this solicitation!
Why It’s Cool: Just look at this thread by Chip Zdarksy promoting this book. If this book about making comics has that much wit, it’s going to be a definite must-read.
Your Obligatory Saga Cover Reveal…
Saga #60 - Due Out June 29
ARTIST / COVER: FIONA STAPLES
WRITER: BRIAN K. VAUGHAN
JUNE 29 / 32 PAGES SELF-COVER / FC / M / $2.99
END OF STORY ARC
Will the landmark sixtieth issue of SAGA end with triumph or tragedy for Hazel and her family? This may be a “season finale” of SAGA, but the most emotional series in comics is only getting started!
Why It’s Cool: Friends, we now come to the finale for the first new arc of Saga in years. While I am sad that the book seems to be going on another break (likely much much shorter than the one that ended in January), I’m very excited to see what this story arc finale issue holds. Saga finales have at times had some pretty big events in them (to say the least), so who knows where things are headed in this one. In terms of the actual cover, I really like the pastel colors used here, which is not a set of shades often deployed for Saga covers.
The Silver Coin #11 - Due Out June 22
WRITER: JAMES TYNION IV
ARTIST / COVER A: MICHAEL WALSH
COVER B: MARTIN SIMMONDS
COVER C (STORY SO FAR, 1:25): ADAM GORHAM

To celebrate the new arc, this issue includes a special “story so far” variant, featuring some of the most memorable and most unfortunate characters who’ve chanced upon the accursed coin.
Why It’s Cool: So, James Tynion, the writer of our #1 and #2 favorite comics of 2021, is scripting an issue of the Michael Walsh-drawn horror anthology series, The Silver Coin? Sign us all the way up.
That Texas Blood #14 - Due Out June 8
WRITER: CHRIS CONDON
ARTIST / COVER A: JACOB PHILLIPS
COVER B: GREG SMALLWOOD
COVER C: MATT TAYLOR
JUNE 8 / 32 PAGES SELF-COVER / FC / M / $3.99
NEW STORY ARC
“THE SNOW FALLS ENDLESSLY IN WONDERLAND,” Part One
THAT TEXAS BLOOD returns with a BRAND-NEW STORY ARC! As a winter storm looms over Ambrose County in January of 1992, a local woman’s body is discovered and believed to be the latest victim of a horrifying West Texas serial killer.
Why It’s Cool: Finally, look y’all, if you’re not reading this comic I don’t know what to tell you. Using Texas as a brutal and minimalistic canvas, it’s telling some of the best neo-noir stories in all of monthly comics. And now we’re getting a brand new arc set against a winter storm, as if the Fargo vibes in this one needed to be much stronger. Cannot wait.
