There’s a lot to like here, whether you’re filling holes in your digital collection or looking to stay home away from the elements, which stand to be pretty severe, at least where I live…anyway, enjoy!

Best comiXology Sales Weekend of February 12, 2021

Ascender Vol. 1 & Vol. 2
Writer:
Jeff Lemire
Artist: Dustin Nguyen
Publisher: Image Comics
10 years after the conclusion of DESCENDER, magic has taken the place of machinery, and the rules are very different indeed. Mila, daughter of Andy and Effie, spends her days exploring the lonely wilds of the planet Sampson and trying to stay out of the clutches of the evil disciples of the all-powerful vampire witch known only as Mother. But, just like her parents, Mila doesn’t like to play by the rules, and when a certain robot pal of her dad’s shows up, nothing will ever be the same! With all the scope and heart of the sci-fi classic, DESCENDER, powerhouse creative team JEFF LEMIRE and DUSTIN NGUYEN reunite to take readers on an unforgettable fantasy quest!
Why It’s Cool: This book is a sequel to Descender — which ran for 40-some issues and delivered one hell of a story steeped in hard sci-fi. This book goes the other way, following up with some of the characters from its predecessor in a high fantasy setting. And you know what? It’s absolutely gorgeous. You don’t even have to have read Descender to enjoy it.
Price: $3.99 for Vol. 1 and $6.99 for Vol. 2; or $10.98 for both

Black Panther: Killmonger - By Any Means
Writer:
Bryan Edward Hill
Artist: Juan E. Ferreyra
Publisher: Marvel Comics
The brutal tale of a man who will stop at nothing…for freedom! One day, years from now, Erik Killmonger will rise up and attempt to steal the throne of Wakanda — the throne he believes he is owed. But long before he became "Killmonger," he was a boy known as N'Jadaka, a boy who was stolen from his home and taught only the world's cruelties. A boy who knew the Black Panther only as a fairy tale, a whisper from strangers. This is the story of a young man driven by revenge — this is where Killmonger's legend begins! But what role does Wilson Fisk, New York's Kingpin of Crime, play? And who will feel the sting of the Black Widow?
Why It’s Cool: This miniseries delivers a new definitive origin for one of Marvel Comics’ most compelling villains, Killmonger. It’s a sophisticated and adult take on super villainy too, and if all that weren’t enough, it features the amazing artwork of one of the best and most underrated superhero illustrators in the business, Juan Ferreyra…all for like $3.
Price: $2.99

Hellboy: The Complete Short Stories, Vol. 2
Writers:
Mike Mignola and various
Artist: Mike Mignola, Richard Corben, and more
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
This 368-page volume covers Hellboy's adventures from 1961 to 1993, leading up to Seed of Destruction. It includes stories from the Hellboy collections The Troll Witch, The Chained Coffin, The Bride of Hell, The Right Hand of Doom, and The Crooked Man, including "Heads," "Buster Oakley Gets His Wish," and "A Christmas Underground".
With over 100 pages drawn by Mignola himself, The Complete Short Stories Vol. 2 features an incredible roster of artists! The two Short Stories volumes, along with the four-volume Hellboy Omnibus series, collect all of Mignola's award-winning Hellboy stories in chronological order for a definitive reading experience.
Unaware of his role as Beast of the Apocalypse, Hellboy travels the world to find his first brushes with the royalty of Hell and the otherworldly Ogdru Hem, while shooting out the Baba Yaga's eye and getting a glimpse of his possible fate in the epic African adventure "Makoma."
Why It’s Cool: Priced at less than $10 and featuring 360+ pages of Hellboy comics (more than 100 of which are drawn by Mignola himself), this new giant volume is one of the best deals I’ve seen on the comixology sales in quite a while. I also tend to think of all the long-running franchises, Hellboy consistently delivers the best short form comics.
Price: $7.49

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Vol. 3: Century
Writer:
Alan Moore
Artist: Kevin O’Neill
Publisher: IDW Publishing - Top Shelf Productions
The nineteenth century, expiring with a flourish of Moriarty and Martians, has left the division of Military Intelligence commanded by Mina Murray in a state of disrepair. While she and her lover Allan Quatermain have achieved a measure of eternal youth, recruiting new talents such as the trans-gendered immortal Orlando, the ghost-finder Thomas Carnacki and the gentleman thief A.J. Raffles to replace their deceased or missing colleagues, former associate Captain Nemo has retired to his Pacific pirate island to decline in surly isolation.
Now it is the early years of a new and unfamiliar century, and forces are emerging that appear to promise ruin for the Murray group, the nation and indeed the world, even were it to take a hundred years for this apocalyptic threat to come to its disastrous fruition.
From the occult parlours and crime-haunted wharfs of 1910, through the criminal, mystical and psychedelic underworlds of 1969 to the financially and culturally desolated streets of 2009, the disintegrating remnants of Miss Murray and her League must combat not only the hidden hand of their undying adversary, but also the ethical and psychological collapse accompanying this new era.
And a lot of things can happen in a CENTURY.
Why It’s Cool: So much attention is paid to writer Alan Moore’s DC Comics production — from Watcmen to Swamp Thing — that the comics he did later in his career (many of which are even better) can get lost at times. If this has happened with you, there’s a sale this week that makes it ridiculously easy to catch up on the final volume of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Price: $6.49

Midnighter & Apollo
Writer:
Steve Orlando
Artist: Fernando Blanco
Publisher: DC Comics
Continuing the story from his GLAAD Award-nominated MIDNIGHTER series, acclaimed writer Steve Orlando (SUPERGIRL) teams with artist Fernando Blanco (BATMAN AND ROBIN ETERNAL) for Midnighter and Apollo’s fiercest battle yet in MIDNIGHTER AND APOLLO.
Partners. Teammates. Lovers. Even though they’d broken up, it’s impossible to keep the heroes known as Midnighter and Apollo apart.
But that’s exactly what Henry Bendix is counting on.
The man who created Midnighter wants to destroy him, and he knows that the perfect warrior has only one weak point—the man he loves. So if he can’t send Midnighter to Hell himself, he’ll get Midnighter to walk right into the underworld…to rescue Apollo, whose soul has been stolen by the Lord of Hell, Neron.
Midnighter is coming to Hell…and Heaven help any demon who stands between him and his man.
Why It’s Cool: In terms of sheer ass-kickery, there is no better couple at DC Comics than Midnighter and Apollo, and this book is the last collected mini-series involving the duo, courtesy of writer Steve Orlando (does anyone write better superhero brawling comics?) and artist Fernando Blanco. Also, not to spoil anything but based on Future State, the duo seems primed to make a comeback…
Price: $5.99
