SMALL PRESS PREVIEWS: White Ash - Chapter Five

White Ash - Chapter Five.

By Zack Quaintance — When I think of Kickstarter comics, I think of White Ash, the comic series from writer Charlie Strickney, artist Conor Hughes, and colorist Fin Cramb. White Ash is a fantasy comic set in a modern day mining town in rural Pennsylvania. It has some loose commentary about places like that, but the main engine for the book is a story of forbidden love.

I associate White Ash so closely with Kickstarter comics, because the team has completed a whopping six Kickstarter campaigns, leading to four full issues (and counting), a beautiful hardcover, a distribution deal with Scout Comics, and a great table to stop by for a chat at some of the largest comics events in the country, specifically thinking here of San Diego. By making excellent comics and working well within the Kickstarter system, I believe this comic has now crowdfunded more than $100,000 from a growing number of fans of the book.

Today it is an absolute honor to have a preview of White Ash #5, which is live on Kickstarter now. Although the campaign reached its funding goal basically by the time it took for me to shoot Charlie a DM on Twitter, there are still a lot of great rewards to be had by supporting this project and helping it reach its stretch goals. So, check out our preview below! Following a brief description of the series, as well as a special note for any of you who have picked up this story via Scout Comics.

Enjoy!

Welcome to White Ash, a small smudge of a mining community in Western Pennsylvania, where the secrets are buried even deeper than the coal under the mountain. If you’re a fan of Supernatural, Twin Peaks or Lord of the Rings, you’re going to love getting to know our mysterious town.

NOTE: For those of you here off reading the Scout Comics version of White Ash, the KS numbering is different. This comic takes place directly after the first Scout arc concludes with #6 (in June).

And now, the preview artwork! Featuring a page that we have the honor of unveiling for the first time here today!
