Breaks 2: Truth and Dare - SMALL PRESS PREVIEW
By Zack Quaintance — Today for our newest small press preview, we have a look at a great new YA graphic novel, Breaks 2: Truth and Dare, by creators Emma Vieceli and Malin Rydén. Published by Soaring Penguin Press, this book is as its title implies a sequel to Breaks, Volume One, which was first released in 2017.
Both of these books are well-executed graphic novels that bring the world of LGBTQ young adult fiction into comics, exploring relationships, friendships, family dynamics, and more coming of age challenges as a group of characters navigate life. Like the first volume as well, this book is a compilation of the acclaimed weekly webcomics series of the same name that ran from 2017 to 2019, and we’re honored today to have a preview of the work to share with you all! You can check out preview artwork as well as teaser text below…enjoy!
You can find the official preview text for the graphic novel below…
Ian and Cortland are all too aware that the bubble they’ve made for themselves can’t last. Shifting relationships and tested friendships may be the least of their worries, though, as they learn more about each other and the pasts they’d rather leave behind. Familial legacy, fragile ambition and potentially devastating secrets; their budding relationship is going to need a stronger foundation than secrecy if they want to face what life has in store for them together. Bringing the world of LGBT young adult fiction into the realm of comic books, and collecting the second arc of the acclaimed weekly web series (2017-2019), Breaks is the story of two young men discovering who they were, who they are, and who they will become. It’s a love story…but a bit broken.
Below you can find some of the artwork from the book, which is out now…
