EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW: The Rush #3 from Vault Comics

By Zack Quaintance — Today we are honored to roll out an EXCLUSIVE preview of The Rush #3, which is due out this week from Vault Comics. Honored for a couple reasons. The first of which is that I have absolutely been loving this comic, so much so that I picked it as one of the best new comics of 2021, expecting fully for the greatness to continue into 2022. The book is set in the late 1800s in gold rush country, and it involves a mother searching for her lost son…finding not only the unforgiving climate of the frontier but chilling hints of the supernatural around all of it.

The second reason is that this comic is drawn by Nathan Gooden, whose work has reached must-buy status for me after a string of incredible comics, including Zojaqan, The Dark One, and, most recently, Barbaric. As you can see in the seven (seven!) fantastic preview pages that Vault has kindly shared with us below, Gooden’s work is as striking as it is effective in engaging the eye and pulling the reader through the excellent story that Si Spurrier is telling. Colored by Addison Duke in this book and lettered by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, The Rush #3 is one of the best comics of the week.

Enjoy our preview below!

CHAPTER 3: THE TRAP
1899: Everyone keeps telling NETTIE BRIDGER that the frozen West is no place for a respectable lady. Lucky for her, she’s neither. She’s seen with her own eyes the impossible devils haunting the forests around BROKEHOOF, but the terror has only hardened her resolve.
She WILL find her missing son, whatever the cost. But avarice and starvation make desperate men deadlier than monsters, and the wealth of this hungry land may prove just as illusory as Nettie’s fading hope.
