Best comiXology Sales: Vault Comics

Heathen, Vol. 1 - Vol. 3
Writer/Artist:
Natasha Alterici
Artist Vol. 3: Ashley A. Woods
Letterer: Rachel Deering
Publisher: Vault Comics
Aydis is a viking, a warrior, an outcast, and a self-proclaimed heathen. Aydis is friend to the talking horse Saga, rescuer of the immortal Valkyrie Brynhild, and battler of demons and fantastic monsters. Aydis is a woman. Born into a time of warfare, suffering, and subjugation of women, she is on a mission to end the oppressive reign of the god-king Odin.
Why It’s Cool: There are some true gems in Vault Comics earliest comics output, but the book that in my opinion put them on the map and started their momentum was this one — Heathen. This comic, the first 2/3 of which is the work entirely of Natasha Alterici, is the a love story set among female viking warriors, complete with great characters, bits of magic, and a poignant story arc that runs through the thing. Being able to read the whole thing for less than $5 makes this an absolute must-buy for old and new readers of Vault Comics alike.
Price:
$4.97 for all three volumes
Buy Them Here: Heathen Vol. 1; Heathen Vol. 2; and Heathen Vol. 3

The Plot, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2
Writers:
Michael Moreci and Tim Daniels
Artist: Joshua Hixson
Colorist: Jordon Boyd
Letterer: Jim Campbell
Publisher: Vault Comics
In order to receive... first you must give. When Chase Blaine's estranged brother and sister-in-law are murdered, he becomes guardian to MacKenzie and Zach, the niece and nephew he hardly knows. Seeking stability for the children, Chase moves his newly formed family to his ancestral home in Cape Augusta -- which overlooks a deep, black bogland teeming with family secrets.
Why It’s Cool: This book feels like a lost horror classic that has just now been unearthed. It’s so confident, so well-done, and so downright eerie, that it’s almost hard to believe. I’ve never made a list of my favorite horror comics, but if I did, this would be on it.
Price:
$2.98
Buy Them Here: The Plot Vol. 1; and The Plot Vol. 2

These Savage Shores
Writer:
Ram V.
Artist: Sumit Kumar
Colorist: Vittoria Astone
Letterer: Aditya Bidikar
Publisher: Vault Comics
Two centuries after the first European ship sailed to the Malabar Coast and made landfall at Calicut, The East India Company seeks to secure its future along the lucrative Silk Route, in the year 1766. An old evil now sails aboard a company ship, hoping to make a home in this new found land. But he will soon find that the ground along the Indus is an ancient one with daemons and legends far older than himself...Along These Savage Shores, where the days are scorched and the nights are full of teeth.
Why It’s Cool: This comic feels universally beloved among critics, and I’m no exception. It’s a really smart horror comic about colonialism that includes great historical touches, an underexplored (at least in Western media) era, and deeply chilling spooky artwork.
Price:
$.99

Wasted Space, Vol. 1 - Vol. 3
Writer:
Michael Moreci
Artist: Hayden Sherman
Colorist: Jason Wordie
Letterer: Jim Campbell
Publisher: Vault Comics
Billy Bane is a prophet who got it all wrong, and the galaxy has been burning ever since. All he wants is to waste away in the darkest corner of space with his best pal Dust, a supercharged Fuq bot. But when a new prophet comes calling, Billy is summoned to save the galaxy he's at least partially responsible for destroying.
Too bad he couldn't care less.
Why It’s Cool: I have absolutely loved this book from the start, and to me, it’s the book that most set the tone for what Vault Comics is — a publisher that is entirely loyal to putting out good stories, regardless of if they come in familiar and easy to pitch baskets, which Wasted Space does somewhat being a space opera. It also sort of throws expectations out the window with its razor-sharp wit and poignant philosophy. It’s just a great book, and I highly recommend it.
Price: $4.97 for all of it
