Best comiXology Sales: Weekend of March 5, 2021
Green Lantern / Green Arrow
Writer: Dennis O’Neil
Artist: Neal Adams
Publisher: DC Comics
This volume collects GREEN LANTERN from the early 1970s, featuring classic team-ups written by Dennis O'Neil with art by Neal Adams!
In these stories, Green Lantern Hal Jordan continued his usual cosmic-spanning adventures, as he used his amazing Power Ring to police Sector 2814 against universe-threatening menaces. Meanwhile, on Earth, Oliver Queen, the archer known as Green Arrow, was confronting menaces of a different kind: racism, poverty, drugs, and other social ills!
Collects GREEN LANTERN #76-87 and 89, and stories from THE FLASH #217-219 and 226.
Why It’s Cool: These are absolutely classic comics, among the best to ever feature either of the titular characters. But the real appeal of this book is actually the dynamic in their relationship, which conveys a deep contrast between Green Arrow’s street level activism and Green Lantern’s galaxy-spanning policing. If you’ve never read these books, now is a great time to change that.
Price: $10.99

Henchgirl (Expanded Edition)
Writer: Kristen Gudsnuk
Artist: Kristen Gudsnuk
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Mary Posa hates her job. She works long hours for little pay, no insurance, and worst of all, no respect. Her coworkers are jerks and her boss doesn't appreciate her. He's also a supervillain. Cursed with a conscience, Mary would give anything to be something other than a Henchgirl. This second edition offers the humor and henching you love, along with an extra new Henchgirl story!
Why It’s Cool: You can read all about what makes Henchgirl work so well in Danielle L’s excellent Comics Bookcase review, but in short: this is a book that uses parody to explore the gray space in superheroes not just between good and evil, but between many decisions in life as well. It’s a great read, one that is fun and will also give you a little bit to think about when you’re finished…a fantastic book to pickup and enjoy for a weekend.
Price: $5.99

Invisible Kingdom, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2
Writer: G. Willow Wilson
Artist: Christian Ward
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics - Berger Books
The exhilarating first and second arcs of the hit ongoing series! An epic new sci-fi saga from the acclaimed team of Hugo and World Fantasy Award–winning author G. Willow Wilson (Ms. Marvel, Wonder Woman) and Eisner Award-winning artist Christian Ward (Black Bolt). In a far-flung galaxy's small solar system, two women—one a young religious acolyte, the other a hard-bitten freighter pilot—uncover a conspiracy between the leaders of the most dominant religion and an all-consuming megacorporation. On the run from reprisals on both sides, this unlikely pair must decide where their loyalties lie—and risk plunging the world into anarchy if they reveal the truth.
Why It’s Cool: Invisible Kingdom is a singular sci-fi comic, one that uses almost psychedelic space designs as it tells a compelling tale of cosmic religions, economics, and perseverance. It’s also part of Dark Horse Comics’ excellent Berger Books imprint, which continues to make some of the smartest and most interesting stories in all of monthly comics.
Price: $5.99 each or $11.98 for both
Buy It Digitally: Invisible Kingdom Vol. 1; and Invisible Kingdom Vol. 2
Justice League International Vol. 1 - Vol. 6
Writers: J.M. DeMatteis and Keith Giffen
Artist: Kevin Maguire
Publisher: DC Comics
In these 1980s tales, find out what happens when Batman, Superman, and the Justice League face a galactic invasion fleet known as the Cluster, exchange harsh words with Lobo, track Mister Miracle back to Apokolips, and then battle yet another invasion fleet!
Why It’s Cool: If you’ve been following along with the site and its social media, you know we’ve been reading the Grant Morrison-helmed JLA run, which re-anchors the DC Universe’s lead superteam around a Big 7 of heroes. These comics, which came before that run, are sort of at odds with that take, instead giving us pretty close to an island of misfit DC heroes…and you know what? They’re an absolutely great time for it. If you’ve never read these stories, you’ll get lost in their 1980s DC Universe shenanigans pretty easily, and you’ll have an absolutely great time doing it.
Price: $6.99 (with $8.99 for Vol. 6) each or $43.94 total
Buy It Digitally: Justice League International Vol. 1; Justice League International Vol. 2; Justice League International Vol. 3; Justice League International Vol. 4; Justice League International Vol. 5; and Justice League International Vol. 6.
Sex Criminals Vol. 1 - Vol. 5
Writer: Matt Fraction
Artist: Chip Zdarsky
Publisher: Marvel Comics
DISCLAIMER: graphic sexuality contenu sexuel explicite
A SEX COMEDY FOR COMICS: Suzie's a normal girl with an extraordinary ability: when she has sex, she stops time. One night she meets John... who has the same gift. And so they do what any other sex-having, time-stopping, couple would do: they rob banks. In the vein of THE 40-YEAR OLD VIRGIN and BRIDESMAIDS, Image Comics invites you to come along with MATT FRACTION (Hawkeye, SATELLITE SAM) and CHIP ZDARSKY (Prison Funnies, Monster Cops) for the series that puts the "comic" back in "comics" and the "sexy" back in "sex crimes."
Why It’s Cool: What if I told you that this series had a character called Kegel-face? Oh, that’s not enough for you? Well, it would be for me. Different strokes (heh), I guess. What if I also told you that this is maybe the most honest and sincere comic about adult sexuality and complicated relationships that modern comics has seen in the past decade? Plus also, in the first half of the series, events are predicated on time freezing when the heroes have an orgasm. In other words, this series has it all!
Price: $30.95 (plus another $13.99 if you want to snag the non-sale sixth and final volume)
Buy It Digitally: Sex Criminals Vol. 1; Sex Criminals Vol. 2; Sex Criminals Vol. 3; Sex Criminals Vol. 4; and Sex Criminals Vol. 5 (plus non-sale Sex Criminals Vol. 6).
