Best comiXology Sales: Weekend of January 22, 2021

By Zack Quaintance — Look, this is probably the hardest time of year to spend money, what with the holiday bills hitting with such force. That said, there is a case to be made that a few bucks spent on a digital comics sale can help soothe the desire to spend money elsewhere…which is my roundabout way of saying: please check out my list of Best comiXology Sales: Weekend of January 22 below!

Best comiXology Sales: Weekend of January 22, 2021

BANG!
Writer:
Matt Kindt
Artist: Wilfredo Torres
Colorist: Bill Crabtree
Letterer: Nate Piekos of Blambot!
Publisher: Dark Horse
A best-of-the-best secret agent with memories he couldn't possibly possess, a mystery writer in her eighties who spends her retirement solving crimes, a man of action with mysterious drugs that keep him ahead of a constant string of targeted disasters, a seemingly omnipotent terrorist organization that might be behind it all . . . And they're all connected to one man: a science-fiction author with more information than seems possible, whose books may hold the key to either saving reality or destroying it. Collects BANG! #1–#5, along with all covers, a sketchbook section, and pinups by Matt Kindt.
Why It’s Cool: This book is a metafictional romp through action storytelling tropes, incorporating homages to famous characters as it goes. Think Die Hard meets Community, and you’re getting close — but not quite there because it’s also very much it’s own thing.
Price: $5.99

We3
Writer:
Grant Morrison
Artist: Frank Quitely
Publisher: DC Comics - Vertigo
A powerful tale from the ALL-STAR SUPERMAN team of Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely. Morrison and Quitely deliver the emotional journey of WE3--three house pets weaponized for lethal combat by the government--as they search for "home" and attempt to ward off the shadowy agency that created them. With nervous systems amplified to match their terrifying mechanical exoskeletons, the members of Animal Weapon 3 (WE3) have the firepower of a battalion between them. But they are just the program's prototypes, and now that their testing is complete, they're slated to be permanently decommissioned, causing them to seize their one chance to make a desperate run for freedom. Relentlessly pursued by their makers, the WE3 team must navigate a frightening and confusing world where their instincts and heightened abilities make them as much a threat as those hunting them.
Why It’s Cool: Told by one of the best comics teams of our lifetimes, this story combines animal-loving sensibilities with serious questions about animal mistreatment as well as high-action comics storytelling that make this a compulsively readable page-turner, one that you won’t put down until you’ve completed.
Price: $5.09
