Best comiXology Sales: Weekend of March 19, 2021

By Zack Quaintance — One of the things I seize on with these best comiXology sales list is when giant omnibus collections hit for cheap. Well friends, this week there are a few, chief among them being Mike Mignola’s Baltimore series and all of Robert Kirkman and co’s Invincible. If you’re looking for some engrossing long reads, this is a great weekend for that.

You can find those and our other picks below…enjoy!

Invincible Compendium Vol. 1 - Vol. 3
Writer:
Robert Kirkman
Artists: Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley
Publisher: Image Comics - Skybound
Mark Grayson is teenage superhero Invincible. He was a normal high school senior with a normal part-time job and otherwise normal life, except his father Nolan is the superhero Omni-Man, the most powerful superhero on the planet. At the age of 17, Mark begins to display superpowers, which come from his father being a member of the Viltrumite race, who, according to Nolan, pioneer the galaxy on a mission of benevolence and enlightenment. As Invincible, Mark begins working as a superhero, with his father acting as his mentor, and meeting other heroes. Mark worked occasionally with a superhero team called the Teen Team (consisting of Robot, Rex Plode, Dupli-Kate and Atom Eve), from there discovering that his Physics teacher has been turning his students into human bombs. He stops his teacher with the help of the heroine, Atom Eve. He also foils a plan to make an army of robots, created by the Mauler Twins. Meanwhile Omni-Man is kidnapped by aliens, taken to another dimension, but returns after what seems to be only a few days, but was actually eight months to him.
Why It’s Cool:
A new Invincible animated show is headed for your TV, making it somewhat likely that this comic is about to explode into the more general conciousness of the zeitgiest. If you haven’t read it, the time is now. In addition to an adaptation being on the way, these are just great superhero comics, accessible, surprising, and relentlessly well done. And now you can get the whole series for relatively cheap.
Price: $19.99 for Vol. 1 and 2; $24.99 for Vol. 3; or $64.97 for all 3

Justice League of America - The Nail - The Complete Collection
Writer:
Alan Davis
Artist: Alan Davis
Publisher: DC Comics
These tales from Justice League of America: The Nail #1-3 and Justice League of America: Another Nail #1-3 examine the repercussions of a simple event as the Kents' flat tire prevents them from discovering a small rocket ship with an alien baby inside it! As a result, the world's greatest hero never comes to be. Without Superman as a symbol of integrity who inspires greatness, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, Aquaman, the Atom, and Green Lantern must battle public and interpersonal distrust as they attempt to work together to protect a world that fears them.
Why It’s Cool: There’s a lot of talk about Justice League going around this week, what with the long-awaited (and polarizing) release of the Zack Snyder cut of that film. But we are 100 percent not here to talk about that. We’re here to talk comics! And one of my all-time favorite Justice League stories is on sale now, that being JLA: The Nail by the great Alan Davis. If you’ve never read this classic, the time has arrived!
Price: $10.99

The Complete Peanuts
Writer:
Charles Schultz
Artist: Charles Schultz
Publisher: Fantagraphics
Although there have been literally hundreds of Peanuts books published, many of the strips from the series' first two or three years have never been collected before―in large part because they showed a young Schulz working out the kinks in his new strip and include some characterizations and designs that are quite different from the cast we're all familiar with. (Among other things, three major cast members―Schroeder, Lucy, and Linus―initially show up as infants and only "grow" into their final "mature" selves as the months go by. Even Snoopy debuts as a puppy!) Thus The Complete Peanuts offers a unique chance to see a master of the art form refine his skills and solidify his universe, day by day, week by week, month by month.
Why It’s Cool: Everyone knows Peanuts, Charlie Brown, Snoopy, etc. It’s a part of the national consciousness, but the high quality of the actual newspaper strips is maybe not as well-known. In fact, our contributing writer Isaac Kelley recently did a great job writing an in-depth look at the sensibilities of this excellent strip. So read that, and then grab as much of the old strips as you like via Fantagraphics fantastic sale this week.
Price: $9.99 per collection

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Jennika
Writers:
Ronda Pattison and Brahm Revel
Artists: Jodi Nishijima and Brahm Revel
Publisher: IDW Publishing
The newest member of the TMNT team embarks on her own adventure in this stand-alone tale! Trying to acclimate to life as a mutant, the newest Turtle, Jennika, will be forced to come to terms with both her troubled past and conflicted present. In search of a dangerous procedure to reverse mutation, will Jennika be tempted by the call of her old life? And how far will she go to save those who gave up on her long ago? Brahm Revel returns from his acclaimed TMNT Universe tale “What is Ninja?” to reveal more of Jennika's backstory!
Why It’s Cool: Not enough readers are talking about this, but Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is one of the hottest long-running comics IPs going right now, vibrant with great new ideas and re-releases of classic books. One of those great new ideas is the addition of the newest turtle, Jennika, and now you can get Jennika’s origin story on sale now.
Price: $4.99
