Best comiXology Sales: Batman Day, BOOM! New #1s, and more
Batman Ego
Writer: Darwyn Cooke
Artist: Darwyn Cooke
Publisher: DC Comics
A collection of pulse-pounding stories of the Dark Knight, Catwoman and more of Gotham’s finest. Featuring Darwyn Cooke’s unique visions of Batman and Catwoman, now available as a Deluxe Edition hardcover!
Why It’s Cool: Darwyn Cooke was an absolute master of the comics format, and his biggest accomplishment tends to get the most attention, New Frontier. Cooke’s Batman work, namely Batman Ego, is also (unsurprisingly) quite good. It’s actually a collection of Batman stories, including a marquee piece about Catwoman. At this price, this deluxe edition is a must-read comics masterpiece. Make sure to snag it this week if you haven’t already, it’s a great way to celebrate Batman Day.

Batman Creature of the Night
Writer: Kurt Busiek
Artist: John Paul Leon
Publisher: DC Comics
Bruce Wainwright, a comic book-reading kid obssessed with the Caped Crusader, loses his parents in a violent crime...and in the real world, no superheroes exist to save the day.
BATMAN: CREATURE OF THE NIGHT, written by Kurt Busiek (ASTRO CITY) and drawn by John Paul Leon (MOTHER PANIC) is a stand-alone story set outside of regular continuity in 1968 Boston, MA. The victim of the brutal murder of his family, young Bruce sees grief and rage build inside himself...until something strange starts taking wing in the Gotham night! Something similar to the comics he's been reading his whole life. As life begins to imitate art, will Bruce Wainwright be able to live up to his fictional namesake?
A deliberatel spiritual companion to the beloved SUPERMAN: SECRET IDENTITY, BATMAN: CREATURE OF THE NIGHT puts a new spin you've never seen before on the legend of Batman--and the dark emotions that drive him!
Why It’s Cool: Batman Creature of the Night — by writer Kurt Busiek and artist the late/great John Paul Leon — is a spiritual successor to Superman Secret Identity, which just so happened to be d. emerson eddy’s classic comic of the week this week. Read about Superman Secret Identity, and then come back to snag the spiritual sequel here. It’s great work.

Infamous Iron Man Vol. 1 - 2
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Artist: Alex Maleev
Publisher: Marvel Comics
There's a new Iron Man in town, and his name is...Victor Von Doom! The greatest villain of the Marvel Universe is no stranger to armor, but now he's trying something new on for size. And where Tony Stark failed, Doom will succeed. But what is Doom's master plan? As the secrets that propel Victor's new quest as a hero start to reveal themselves, a who's who of heroes and villains start looking for a piece of revenge for Doom's past sins - beginning with bashful, blue-eyed Ben Grimm, the ever-lovin' Thing! Next up at bat is someone from Tony's past who has a big problem with Doom taking on the Iron mantle - but where has Pepper Potts, a.k.a. Rescue, been until now? The saga of Iron Man takes its strangest turn yet!
Why It’s Cool: Before leaving Marvel a few years back, writer Brian Michael Bendis was doing some of the strongest work of his long tenure at the publisher, and chief among his best books was this one, which saw Doctor Doom trying to fill in for a missing Iron Man. These were really great, good-looking comics, and I recommend them if you didn’t have a chance to read them as they came out. Just two volumes will get you the whole series.
Price: $3.99 each or $7.98 for the whole series
