Why It’s Cool: I threw this one on the list this week immediately because it was one of the books that Taylor Pecther touched upon in his recent piece about Renee Montoya, The Question. Final Crisis can be complex, but it’s ideas are amazing and series like this showcase the strong storytelling that took place within its framework.

The Immortal Hulk, Vol. 1 - Vol. 7

Why It’s Cool: If you haven’t heard us gush about how amazing Immortal Hulk is by now, I don’t know what to tell you. This book rules — it’s a superhero comic that doesn’t fell like one in the best possible way — and not to spoil any surprises but it’s going to do well yet again on our Best Of lists, which are coming soon.

Why It’s Cool: This two-volume maxi-series features an intriguing mystery spread across two timelines - the present and the WWII era Invaders history. It’s also rendered expertly by a pair of fantastic artists, with Carlos Magno’s massive action sequences (many underwater!) standing out as a highlight.

Vision, Vol. 1 - Vol. 2

They look like him. They have his powers. They share his grandest ambition (or is that obsession?): the unrelenting need to be ordinary. Behold the Visions! They're the family next door, and they have the power to kill us all. What could possibly go wrong? Artificial hearts will be broken, bodies will not stay buried, the truth will not remain hidden, and the Vision will never be the same.
Why It’s Cool: All these comics later, and this is still Tom King’s best work, bar none. Can’t recommend it enough if you haven’t checked it out already.

Zero Hour: Crisis In Time

Written and pencilled by Dan Jurgens (CONVERGENCE, THE NEW 52: FUTURES END) and inked by Jerry Ordway (THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN), ZERO HOUR chronicles the discovery by DC's greatest heroes of a tidal wave of temporal disruption, as they band togheter to combat chronal chaos. When all of his family and friends were killed by the attack of a super-villain, the once heroic Green Lantern went insane and became the immensely powerful Parallax. Hoping to save his loved ones, the mad Hal Jordan decided to recreate the universe by unraveling time. Now as realities and time lines converge, dinosaurs walk the Earth again, deceased heroes are resurrected, and half the population has suddenly vanished. With Parallax on the verge of success, Superman, Batman, Robin, Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and the rest of the world's heroes must find a way to stop their former comrade or cease to be as all existence ends.
Why It’s Cool: DC Comics has had so many crises. Like, so many, but few have been as bonkers and as fun and as indicative of what the universe is all about at its best as Zero Hour: Crisis In Time, which for my money is one of the most underrated stories in the major DC stories ranks.
