ONE HOT PANEL: DCeased Unkillables #2 is stupid and also amazing
By Zack Quaintance — Folks, for our ONE HOT PANEL this week, I have in fact chosen not one, but two hot panels. You can rest assured, however, that they are both excellent. You see, they just so happen to come from DCeased: Unkillables #2, which is the sequel to last year’s surprise hit, DCeased, which is the DC Universe but techno-zombies. As you are no doubt now aware, it’s all very very dumb. But you know what? It’s also very very amazing.
In fact, from a certain perspective this is maybe the purest DC Comics story we’ve had with the publisher’s superheroes in years. We’re getting big action, long-standing character dynamics explored, and new bonds forged. Plus, it’s in its own continuity, and you know what that means — ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN! And folks? Anything does happen, as you’re about to see in the totally bonkers panels I’ve picked to highlight as some of my favorites of the week. You can check those out right after the jump with all that good solicit info.
Enjoy!
DCeased: Unkillables #2
Panel One
So, this panel is excellent for two pretty obvious reasons: 1. It has a full-blown zombie Wonder Woman; 2. She’s ripping a dude (Vandal Savage, actually) sheer in half. These are the type of big dumb (and also amazing) moments that make this series work so well. You get a few pages of well-done classic character interactions — BAM — zombie busts in and wrecks @&#^. It’s great.
Panel Two
This panel features zombie Mirror Master taking it to now-zombie Bane, who was hanging out with non-zombie Ace the Bat-dog. This panel is excellent because it emphasizes the other thing that’s for sale with this book — you get to see the deep DC Comics bench of characters in situations you otherwise would not. Plus, zombies.
And I’m going to drop an One Honorable Mention Panel (jeez, the name of this thing is dumb) here…mostly because you can just feel that Solomon Grundy punch to Slade Wilson’s face…so clearly that you can’t help but say to yourself, comics!
